The Breakup Club projects that breakups are a means for catharsis and reflection, whether it is the end of a romantic breakups, the culmination of a goal never actualized, a familial falling away, or a stark separation from social labels given to us by our community. This book displays how, after a continuous falling apart, we can locate and create empathy between any two people.

I greet my broken heart like an old friend.

I scream at her for allowing me to deteriorate.

I tell her how much I despise her and how I love her.

We are like family.

I have never been happier or more lost

than when I was with her.

Then she leaves again,

and I wonder if I even knew her at all.

A master of ceremonies, well done my friend,

very entertaining.

She leaves a note,

a parting and starting of ways,

“Welcome to the club.”
